Interview with the Fundación Grupo Educar on cyberbullying in schools 2018-11-08 · grupoeducar.cl
The piece takes a closer look at a recent circular issued by the Education Superintendence.

Following on from the presentation given by BMAJ associates Jorge Barrera and Daniel Loyola at the Fundación Grupo Educar’s seminar on improving the social environment in schools, Daniel Lolya spoke to Grupo Educar’s monthly magazine about the most recent circular issued by the Education Superintendence regarding the minimum guidance that educational establishments recognized by the Chilean government must include in their rules and regulations on issues of bullying through traditional and digital media.

These are instructions that seek to promote a good school environment and prevent all types of violence, particularly those caused through digital media (social media, videos, text or voice messages, etc.), commonly known as "cyberbullying".

Some of the aspects mentioned in the circular that schools should include in their internal rules and regulations are:

- A precise description of the behaviors that constitute bullying, graduating them according to their severity.
- An explanation of the applicable disciplinary measures, which should seek to use collaborative means of conflict resolution in the first instance where possible. These measures should also detail the stages and instances in which a penalty or punishment would be imposed.
- Set out in detail strategies for educating students and teachers to prevent bullying all forms of bullying in and out of school premises, including cyberbullying.

Daniel Loyola commented: "The Education Superintendence’s circular to schools on how to prevent cyberbullying are a step towards educating teachers, students and parents about the seriousness of the issue and how to deal with it, as well as identifying preventive measures so that no student has to experience the devastating impact of cyberbullying."
